You might want to know what the difference is between simple relaxation and deep relaxation.

Simple relaxation gives you a good rest, and takes the pressures of you here and now.

Deep relaxation will work on every part of  your body, so that it relaxes and gradually releases possible tensions - even tensions that have been there for years. 
Since our body influences both the way we feel and think (and vice versa), deep relaxation will have an appreciable overall effect on how you feel and how you experience your life.

Not only will you feel less tired and tense. 
The deeper you relax, the more you will get in touch with your inner resources: 
clarity, concentration, inner peace. You will feel more harmonious and loving.

Normally this is not something that happens overnight: it happens step by step, when you do deep relaxation on a regular basis. 
Maybe you want to do it every second day or maybe even every day.
Try and find what works best for you.
If you do it too seldom, you will probably experience that it helps you here and now, but there is no long-term improvement of how you feel.
If you do it too often, you might feel it's boring or it's a pressure by itself.

And of course you cannot achieve deep relaxation by using pressure.
But you can invite it. You can create space and time for it.

There are different ways of doing it, but in essence here is how to do it:

  1. Make sure you will not be disturbed

  2. Lie down and relax

  3. For every part of your body, focus on it and invite it to relax

  4. After you have relaxed all parts of your body, feel how your whole body has become more relaxed

  5. Return to daily reality

How much you should work on each and every single muscle of your body depends on what kind of a person you are, and what works best for you. Try to find a level that feels really good for you - neither too demanding nor too superficial.
Also, allow the process to develop over time, and even to change from day to day. You are a living creature and nothing stays the same - that goes for the way you relax too.

The right kind of music will induce a relaxed state by itself. Listening to it while you perform a deep relaxation will have a very deep effect. In a way it is like relaxing under specially prepared water that embraces and harmonizes your body and soul in a profound way. Or it is like having a soft balancing massage without anyone touching your body.

Something that is

  • very calm and relaxed by itself

  • feels nurturing and caring in a way you appreciate

  • if not monotonous, then at least not "exciting". 
    You don't want the music to catch your attention - you just want to focus on your body-feelings and let the music support you.
